Friends of TrendyFriends of TrendyFriends of Trendy is a small design collective and they wanted a website that showed how even though they are small they have big aspirations and ideas, their attention to detail is a big part of what makes them unique.

These and many other things had to be taken into consideration when designing the website and printed material, including business cards and a monthly updated newsletter.

What is different about Friends of Trendy is that they aim to highlight the “trend of the moment” in their image at the time, this requires a fairly simple web interface which could be updated easily.

Self ElectedSelf Elected Project This was a self defined brief aimed at using graphic language to communicate the seasons through the graphic language of a box (for each season).

This was the main project that lasted throughout my entire final year at university, so this allowed for alot of time to get really in depth with the research which was required.

By using the graphic language through the appearance of my designs I intended to show how even things that have no brand can fall subject to commercialisation and be packaged and promoted. This demonstrated that even things as diverse as the seasons could be boxed up and marketed as the next new *super product.*

This projects promotional website can be viewed online here

Whittard of ChelseaWhittard of ChelseaThis was a brief for Whittard of Chelsea, the English tea wares company, who requested that I design a range of six coffee cups and their packaging using the imagery supplied by Wiscombe Art.

They come in sets of 3 and will be available to purchase in shops sometime this year. I will of course update this and my blog with photographs when they do, so make sure to check back regularly.
Please Note, as these mugs have not been produced yet, the mugs pictured are not the mugs for Whittard, but they are nearly identical. Aside from the backstamps which display “Whittard of Chelsea” instead of these ECP Design versions.

Wiscombe ArtWiscombe ArtThis brief given to me by Wiscombe Art was to create a set of six retro tins using their own hand painted imagery to be sold as a set.

These tins along with a different set of mugs using the same images were entered in Gift of the Year Award, for more information on this please see my blog here

Summer ShowSummer Show 2This was a brief to design and develop the promotional image for the University of Portsmouth School of Art, Design and Media 2007 summer exhibition, which is used to showcase all the graduating students work.

The brief was incredibly open, and there wasn’t much required promotional material, other than posters, there were no set pieces that had to be provided.

However, I created a couple of posters (portrait and landscape), the invitations, signage and the display material for containing the information on each students work. I used a photograph of our design building at university as a mask and a summery sky image in the background as the theme.

DissertationDissertationThis was a self defined brief for my written dissertation entitled “Is technology bringing us closer together or breaking us further apart?” In which I discussed the repercussions and effects of technology and Its impact on how we communicate and interact with our friends and family as a result of the advance in communications technology.

Or more specifically how we deal with our emotions and life issues according to how much we use these technological features.
The end practical outcome for this was an online confessional website which can be viewed online here.

ISTD Briefcomp5.gifThis was my ISTD entry, and the brief was to typographically interpret a space 3 metres cubed. I chose to interpret my bedroom. Being a personal space I communicated that the deeper you search through someones room the more you learn about the person who lives in it.

I created an interactive piece that involved the use of light in the way that the design functioned. At first it appears to be a long strip of uninterpretable letters, but when folded up and held over light it becomes apparent that it is an insight into my bedroom each with a different perspective. Descriptive, narrative and emotive. Each concealing a different level of information.

This was then all wrapped up together, along with an introduction, inside an envelope made with fabric from my bedlinen.

CanvasCanvas Detail 4This canvas is part of some of my earliest work, and although It’s not exactly the path I want to be taking now in my professional career, I really enjoy painting and there is a certain quality that can be achieved by hand painting that is just simply unachievable with the use of a computer.

The image on the canvas was taken from a photograph and then applied to the canvas. I started this project in June 2006.

Design Isn’t just something I hope to be involved in as a career, It’s something that I really do enjoy and involve myself in throughout the day.
